One of our favourite things about reconnecting with long-lost high school friends is discovering what cool things they’ve done in life since we parted ways eons ago. Vancouver-based Meera Bennett is one of those amazing people – now a wife, mother, lawyer, and entrepreneur in the spare moments in between!
Meera’s family-run company, Devon’s Drawer, makes gorgeous heirloom clothes for modern kids that are built to last for many generations. They believe that by making high quality clothing, and using ethical and environmentally responsible production, they can make the world a better place. Now that’s a company philosophy the Healthy Family Expo team can get behind!
And this a truly a family-run business in all respects. Meera’s mom does the designs and production. Meera handles social media, PR/communications and legal, her sister helps with advertising strategy, and her accountant brother balances the books. Meera’s mom has a degree in fashion design and art history, and had tried to get a clothing business going when Meera was a baby, but that was pre-internet and just not feasible. Her mom made all of the kids’ clothing growing up until they got too cool for home made and just wanted to wear coloured Guess jeans. Flash forward to when Meera had her first son Devon, her mom started making all this beautiful clothing for him, and Meera urged her to revive her dream and start a clothing company. It’s been a lot of hard work, they literally knew nothing about the manufacturing and production side, but they’ve been learning as they go. We think they’ve done an incredible job and can’t wait for our kids to test-drive some of their beautiful new pieces!

Chorus & Clouds is a community gathering space for families to explore, to take part in fun classes and enriching activities, and to make new friends. They’re just completing a studio expansion and will re-open for their celebration party on September 10th!
Founder, Jessica Schellenberg, is an Early Childhood Educator motivated to provide meaningful experiences to the youngest members of our community, to connect with children on their level, to respond to their needs, and to respect their individual nature. Her approach is deeply Reggio Emilia inspired, which stresses the recognition of every child’s strengths and potential and values free and creative expression.
The classes offered at Chorus & Clouds facilitate natural learning opportunities and spark imagination. A strong emphasis is placed on music as a way to inspire children, to build their confidence, and to open the door to deeper learning experiences. Regular classes include infant/toddler art club, explorer’s lab, magical music, open exploration, adult music & art workshops, and more!
One of our favourite things offered at Chorus & Clouds is their weekly drop-in meet-up for busy families. Professional speakers with cover topics that matter to you. Moms, dads, caregivers, kids, everyone is welcome to attend. Over the weeks, they will cover nutrition, sleep, art therapy, running a small business and more. Suggested donation of $5 per family covers the talk, refreshments, and a special Music & Movement class just for your little ones. We’re definitely going to check out Meera Bennett’s talk about work-life balance on October 4th!
