BC Day Celebration at Burnaby Village Museum Monday, August 6, 11 am to 4:30pm, 6501 Deer Lake Avenue
Highlights for families: Enjoy a special Market Monday full of local vendors and learn about Burnaby’s history. Gate admission is free and Carousel rides are $2.65.
Brigade Days at Fort Langley Monday, August 6, 10 am to 4:45pm, 23433 Mavis Ave
Highlights for families: Witness “The Arrival of the Fur Brigades” canoe reenactment and a Kwantlen welcome, as well as other historical dramatizations, music, stories and traditional skills. There will be performers in costume and a day of educational fun.
Caribbean Festival August 5 1- 10 pm & August 6 12-8, Maple Ridge Fairgrounds
Highlights for families: Enjoy over 100 entertainers, Caribbean food, an open air market, face painting and rides in the kids zone as well as crafts, zumba, martial arts, balloon animals, and bouncy castles.
Fridays on Front August 3, 5pm – 9pm, Front Street
Highlights for families: TGIF with us this summer: artisan market, food trucks, live music, in a fully licensed street venue, free admission, easily accessible by sky train. 8 consecutive Fridays!
Family Movie Night! August 3, 7 pm, Civic Plaza 141 14th St W
Highlights for families: Enjoy Coco, family friendly activities before the show, face painting, a bike rodeo (bring or borrow), piano sing-alongs and concession with $1 snacks. Movie starts at 8:45pm.
Summer Concert Series: Classic Rock Night , August 3, 7 – 9 p.m, Town Centre Park
Highlights for families:Music lovers can enjoy free summer concerts under the evening sky at TD Community Plaza (also on September 7). Visit coquitlam.ca/summerconcerts for performance details.
Loggers Sports Festival, Squamish – all weekend (Thursday- Monday see website for times & locations)
Highlights for families: Loggers Sports turns 60 this year! Chair carving, Bed races, Pancake Breakfast, Axe Throwing competition, Amateur & Professional Lumberjack ( & jill) sports competitions with competitors from around the world! So much fun all weekend, Saturday admission to Lumberjack Competition only $2!
Picnic at the Pavilion: Monday, August 7, 11-4pm, Junction Park & O’ Siyam Pavilion, Cleveland Avenue
Highlights for families: Take in a yoga class, bring your own picnic or grab lunch from a food truck and listen to live music.
Cinema under the Stars: August 11, Dusk, Holland Park
Highlights for families: Watch Coco on the big screen for free, but donations will be accepted for local charities.
BC Day at Sunset Community Centre – Monday, August 6, 11-1pm, 6810 Main Street
Highlights for families: play gym (including a bouncy castle), arts and crafts, games, and more.
Honda Celebration of Light – August 4, Second Beach during the day, English Bay at night
Highlights for families: Check out the family-friendly REMAX Family Zone at Second Beach that will include a bouncy castle, games, face paint, and so much more. Take in the fireworks starting at 10pm and watch Canada’s team fireworks display.
Powell Street Festival – August 4 and 5, Powell Street
Highlights for families:Learn more about Japanese-Canadian culture, with traditional art and cultural displays, yummy Japanese food, drumming, tea ceremonies, origami, story building workshop, tug of war, watermelon game, and something called a Kiai contest that involves getting really noisy. There’s also face painting, hat making, martial arts and a tent of kids activities.
Pride Festival & Parade – August 5, 11 am – 6 pm, Robson Street & Sunset Beach
Highlights for families: Take in the Parade from 12-3pm and then enjoy the Sunset Beach festival 11 am – 6 pm. At the festival, there’s a family fun zone set up with kids activities and fun for the whole family.
Harmony Arts Festival – August 3-12 , Argyle Avenue, from 14th Street to 16th Street
Highlights for families: Concerts and free films in the park during Cinema in the Park, sponsored by West Vancouver Optometry Clinic, at the Main Stage in John Lawson Park. Films will start at 9 p.m.
White Rock Sea Festival – Aug 3-5, White Rock Beach
Highlights for families: Live entertainment, kid’s activities, vendors lining the promenade, the Torchlight Parade with a grand finale of fireworks at dusk.
